14 DAY TRIAL // After a few leaks and a bit of teasing, Rockstar Games confirms that the Festive Surprise update is now available for download for Grand Theft Auto 5 across the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms, allowing owners to enjoy a lot of holiday-themed content in the GTA Online multiplayer mode.
GTA 5 has entertained tens of millions of fans from around the world, first on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in September of last year, and then on the PS4 and Xbox One, as it came out for those devices last month.
Between those big releases, Rockstar Games has rolled out a variety of themed updates over the months for the GTA Online multiplayer mode, in order to keep players excited and engaged in the experience.
The Festive Surprise update is now live
Now, the latest themed update has just gone live for the game, in the form of the Festive Surprise one that introduces a variety of new elements to the multiplayer mode of GTA 5.
On the official newswire, Rockstar reveals that PS3 and Xbox 360 owners should be greeted with a message to download patch 1.19 for their game, while PS4 and Xbox One users will encounter a prompt to download patch 1.05 for their own editions of the game.
Lots of surprises are included
Of course, the biggest addition in the update is snow that's now falling across Los Santos and Blaine County, drastically altering gameplay and offering plenty of unique experiences, including snowball fights.
"Those dreaming of a white Christmas are in luck as the forecast calls for the extremely rare phenomenon of San Andreas snowfall to hit on a few special days this holiday season. Be on the lookout and ready to round up your Crew for a friendly snowball fight, but be forewarned, those icy little suckers can pack a wallop."
Among the other new elements included in the update are brand new weapons, in the form of a Homing Missile Launcher and Proximity Mines, which can be purchased in the game. There are also free Christmas gear and masks, from holiday pajamas to ugly sweaters, new scarves, hats, masks, and more. They can be worn until Monday, January 5, so make them count.
Four vehicles are also available for purchase, including the tricked out Hot Rod Christmas Ratloader, the Slam Van, as well as the Massacro and the Jester, which have special racing liveries.
Special holiday crates will drop more frequently from now until January 5, while on Christmas Day, December 25, players who log into the game will receive a few special gifts from Rockstar. Last but not least, the firework launcher and the firework rocket ammo are coming back and can be used from Christmas Eve until Monday, January 5, inside the game.
