GNOME Online Accounts 3.17.2 is now available for testing

Debarshi Ray, a renown GNOME developer, announced the immediate availability for download and testing of a new development release of the GNOME Online Accounts component of the upcoming GNOME 3.18 desktop environment.

GNOME Online Accounts is in charge of allowing users to access various online accounts under GNOME. It an interface to various libraries, supporting Google, Facebook, Foursquare, Windows Live, Microsoft Exchange, ownCloud, Flickr, Jabber, Pocket, Kerberos, as well as IMAP/SMTP and SIP accounts.

According to the changelog, GNOME Online Accounts 3.17.2 enables the Foursquare local search and discovery service by default and removes support for Yahoo! accounts. Additionally, it adds new icons for the Windows Live account support and renames it to Microsoft Account, and restores a wrongfully deleted string from the Facebook account support.

Another interesting feature is that the GNOME Online Accounts component has been ported to WebKit2. Among other changes, we can mention support for refreshing smartcard authenticated Kerberos tickets, a workaround of the broken "Use this account for external calls" option in Telepathy accounts, made the "identity service off" an independent process, and made some adjustments to the user interface.

Several translations have been updated as well in GNOME Online Accounts 3.17.2, including Arabic, Greek, Indonesian, German, Polish, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Simplified Chinese, Czech, Finnish, Danish, Italian, Hebrew, Korean, Swedish, Thai, Tajik, Turkish, and Norwegian Bokmal.

Those interested in testing the GNOME Online Accounts 3.17.2 component can download the source code right now from Softpedia or wait for their GNU/Linux distribution to include the packages of the GNOME 3.17.2 desktop environment. Please keep in mind that this is a pre-release version that contains unresolved issues.
