Many other packages have been upgraded as well

The GNOME development team has announced that the first maintenance point release for GNOME 3.14 is now out and it should hit the repositories pretty soon.

The latest GNOME 3.14 branch was made available a few weeks ago and the developers have managed to quickly push the first update for it. The reception for GNOME 3.14 has been great, but it's normal for devs to find things to fix and improve. It shows dedication from the makers of this desktop environment and it's a good sign for the future GNOME releases.

GNOME doesn't have a good track record for releasing stuff right on time and it often happens that some of the minor versions arrive a couple of days late, but that's not true for 3.14.1. It's going to be quite interesting to see just how fast the developers will manage to integrate this version in their distros.

GNOME 3.14.1 is all about fixes

These versions usually carry small improvements and bug fixes, and 3.14.1 is no different. For example, in GNOME Shell, the pulse animation has been corrected, a memory leak that occurred when multiple screenshots were taken has been fixed, some minor UI inconsistencies have been corrected, and a few smaller problems have been repaired.

"Here comes our first update to GNOME 3.14, it has many fixes, various improvements, documentation and translation updates, we hope you'll enjoy it. We will soon publish the schedule for our next releases, and a first development release, 3.15.1, should soon hit the streets," says GNOME developer Frederic Peters.

GNOME 3.14.1 comes with updates for these core apps: at-spi2-atk, Baobab, Empathy, Eye of GNOME, Epiphany, Evince, evolution-data-server, GNOME Display Manager, GNOME Desktop, GNOME Contacts, GNOME Shell, GNOME Control Center, GTK+, Mutter, Tracker, Vala, Yelp, and a few others.

The apps that receive upgrades in the 3.14.1 branch include Bijiben, Evolution, GNOME Boxes, GNOME Clocks, Mahjongg, GNOME Music, GNOME Software, GNOME Weather, GNOME Sudoku, Iagno, Polary, Rygel, Vinagre, and a few others. As usual, about half of the packages from the GNOME stack haven't been updated at all. They might get some attention in future releases or even in GNOME 3.16.

We detailed the GNOME 3.14.1 release when it was made available and we covered most of the new features that were implemented. You can download the GNOME 3.14.1 stack from Softpedia, but keep in mind that these are the source packages. If you want an easy upgrade or install, be sure to check the repositories.
