Developer FreeStyleGames and publisher Activision are announcing that they are working on a new title called Guitar Hero Live, which is designed to bring the classic series of music titles back for a new generation of players on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

After a short teasing period, it was officially revealed that the video game was set to arrive later in the year and would be a complete break with the past of the franchise.

The developers are introducing an entirely new controller for Guitar Hero Live, which is designed to offer a more authentic take on music simulation.

The device has two rows of keys that are placed very close together, with the set lower on the instrument colored white and the rest of them black.

Jamie Jackson, who is leading work on Guitar Hero Live at FreeStyleGames, tells VG247, "The idea of having six buttons came from wanting to mimic the idea of this is playing guitar. We also wanted to offer a new experience if we were to bring this game back; we couldn’t just regurgitate the same gameplay."

The new controller means that all hardware linked to the series that gamers now own is no longer used in any way and that more difficult moments can be introduced once gamers learn the core ideas.

Guitar Hero Live focuses on the tension of playing on stage

As the name implies, the new title is designed to focus on the way the best musicians deal with the pressure of playing live before a demanding audience.

FreeStyleGames and Activision have not yet offered a full list of the songs that they are introducing in Guitar Hero Live.

So far, the two companies have revealed that Fall Out Boy - My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up) and Black Keys - Gold On The Ceiling will be included.

A special challenge mode will be offered to gamers who want to deal with some extra interesting scenarios.

The focus of the new title is on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, but versions for older devices and the Nintendo Wii U are also in development.

At the moment, Activision is only mentioning a fall launch date and says that the entire package will be sold with the new instrument for 99 dollars or Euro.
