14 DAY TRIAL // Two free titles are now available via the Games with Gold program from Microsoft, with Chariot, the new indie platformer, appearing on the Xbox One, while Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the fun first-person shooter, is now available on the Xbox 360.
The Games with Gold program has offered some pretty good deals to Xbox Live Gold subscribers for over a year now, as Microsoft began its service first for the Xbox 360, and earlier this summer for the Xbox One platform, albeit with slightly tweaked requirements.
Microsoft confirmed its October lineup for the Games with Gold last week and now, seeing as how the new month has begun, the titles are actually available via the Xbox Live Marketplace, according to the blog of Larry Hryb.
Chariot is free for the Xbox One
The first title available for free is Chariot, a brand new indie platformer for the Xbox One. The game, coming from Canadian studio Frima, has a pretty interesting premise, as it follows a princess and her fiancé, who ride a funeral wagon through a series of ancient caves, swinging across chasms, beating greedy looters, and performing different physics puzzles.
"Chariot is a humorous, physics-based couch co-op platformer in which a brave Princess and her Fiancé carry a funeral wagon through ancient caves, fending off swarms of looters while amassing riches, to bury the King’s remains in a worthy, gold-filled tomb," Microsoft describes the game.
"With skill-testing coordination mechanics and thrilling physics-based stunts required, Chariot will definitely please couch co-op enthusiasts as teamwork and cooperation unlock new possibilities."
Xbox 360 owners can get Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Meanwhile, from now until October 15, Xbox 360 owners with active Xbox Live gold subscriptions can get a free copy of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for their own home console.
The game appeared a few years ago and continued the story of Bad Company, a group of soldiers made out of rejects from all the other platoons who, thanks to their luck, end up in all sorts of crazy situations.
Besides the entertaining single-player story, the title also features a comprehensive multiplayer mode with plenty of great mechanics, from destroyable environments to other such things.
Bad Company 2 is going to be replaced by Darksiders 2 on October 16, which will be available for free until the end of October. Meanwhile, Chariot remains free throughout the whole month.
Bear in mind that on the Xbox One, a Gold subscription is needed to download and play a Games with Gold title. Meanwhile, on Xbox 360, a Gold membership is necessary only to download a free game, and it can be played even when the subscription expires.
