The focus for most fans of the Halo universe is at the moment on details and reveals about the new Guardians title but the teams at 343 Industries and Microsoft working on the franchise have a range of other content set to be launched this year, including a digital story written by Frank O'Connor.

Halo: Saint's Testimony is set to arrive as a digital single on July 27, 2015, with publishing duties handled by Simon & Schuster.

The new Cannon Fodder update on the Halo Waypoint site offers more details about the narrative and the central character on which it will be focused.

The two companies state, "The military-grade artificial intelligence known as Iona has only one week to live. After that, the UNSC will legally terminate her seven-year existence in order to stave off the threat of the data corruption phenomenon known as 'rampancy', a condition that will eventually take hold of her functionality and persona, endangering all those around her."

But it seems that Iona is not ready to be deactivated just yet and is trying to use legal action to make sure that her existence continues.

The UNSC and other more shadowy organizations are apparently interested in Iona, and the implications of the Frank O'Connor created story will probably be felt all through the Halo universe.

A cover for the story created by Chase Toole is also offered for fans to explore.

Halo is evolving across a variety of mediums

There are five pieces of writing that will be delivered to fans before the end of the year, all of them designed to enhance the video game release coming on October 27.

Halo 5: Guardians will have a core story that focuses on Agent Locke and on Master Chief but the two live action trailers launches so far have not offered too many details, although it is clear that events will be seen from two perspectives.

343 Industries has not offered info on the new mechanics or the enemies that gamers will have to face.

Halo 5: Guardians is also making tweaks to the multiplayer experience, with a number of abilities added for all Spartans, who are now able to sprint for extended periods and have more mobility to avoid threats.
