The company is expected to launch the flagship in March

It’s no mystery that Samsung is prepping to launch its next consumer-bound device, the Galaxy S6, at MWC 2015 in Barcelona, in a month.

The Korean tech giant has a lot at stake here. Many of the company’s fans are expecting Samsung to make up for last year’s flagship, the Galaxy S5, which was considered a major flop in the company’s path.

So a lot is expected from the Galaxy S6, and Samsung, for its part, seems to have been listening to critiques and is really looking to make a difference with the new flagship.

The rumor mill has been abounding with information related to the handset, but surely, we need to take some of it with a grain of salt.

Anyway, we reviewed all the available data that got leaked so far, and we picked the most relevant tidbits, which in case they turn out to be true, will surely contribute to the success of the Galaxy S6.

TouchWiz gets reinvented

Samsung’s TouchWiz interface is the reason why many people believe Android is laggy. The skin introduces a lot of additional features and settings, but most of them are quite useless. Not to mention they put an awful strain on the phone’s internals.

But rumor has it that Samsung is looking to reinvent TouchWiz especially for the Galaxy S6 and make it less cluttered. Actually, Sammy is said to be aiming for a Nexus 6-type of interface. That’s a pretty big challenge and we hope the Korean tech giant manages to pull it through.

Exynos 7420 inside

After a lot of speculation in the media, Qualcomm itself acknowledged that the Snapdragon 810 processor wouldn’t go into any important consumer flagship this spring.

But do not worry, the Korean tech giant has a great backup plan. It will use one of its in-house Exynos 7420 chips inside the Galaxy S6. And if we’re to look at the recent benchmarks featuring the chip, which have just popped up online, we can rest assured that the Galaxy S6 will be as zippy as expected.

In the leaked Geekbench test, the Exynos hardware performed better than the Qualcomm high-end platform purportedly inside HTC’s upcoming flagship, the One M9.

Samsung’s chip is based on 14nm technology, while the Snapdragon 810 still relies on the 20nm process, so the Exynos platform is poised to consume less power.

Metal design

One of the major complaints customers and reviewers had regarding the Galaxy S5 was that the flagship felt cheap, due to its plastic back.

But Samsung started using metal for building its phones with the Galaxy Alpha and people loved it. Now the rumor mill is saying that the Galaxy S6 will also enjoy some metal treatment.

Word on the street has it that the S6 will be made of glass and metal, but it’s pretty unlikely to think that glass will be added into the equation.

That’s because Samsung is probably not yet willing to sacrifice the removable cover on the back of its phones, which allows users to swap cover accessories and batteries. That’s why we don’t think glass has a place anywhere on the Galaxy S6, except on the screen.

New Fingerprint Sensor

The Galaxy S5 arrived with a fingerprint scanner, but it was cumbersome and annoying to use, because it was of the swipe-based variety.

However, competing companies like Apple, Meizu and Huawei had already equipped their top-tier models with a touch-based fingerprint sensor, which is a lot more effective and easy to use.

The new touch-based sensor is said to be built into the home button as well, just like its predecessor. However, the button will be slightly bigger when compared to previous models like the Galaxy S5 and Note 4.

The new technology would allow users to place their finger on the home key at any angle and then lift it off to be granted access, instead of swiping their finger on the sensor.
