Bodhi is a minimalistic Linux operating system based on Ubuntu and that features low system requirements. The developers have just released a new Reloaded edition for the distro, but they decided to keep the RC tag, at least for now.

Bodhi Linux is a system that tries to blend two very different aspects of an operating system. It aims to be small and light, but it also aims to look nice and to provide a unique experience for the user. These aims might seem incompatible, but the makers of the OS also adopted the Enlightenment desktop environment, which is very capable.

It's also worth pointing out that the founder of the project left the helm a few months ago, but it looks like he's back and he's here to stay. Even if it's a relatively small distro, it has a very large fan base and it people have really big expectations from it.

Bodhi Linux is still impressive

One of the things that are obvious right from the start is the fact that the Enlightenment desktop is actually very well suited for this distro and it feels natural. It's customized to some degree, but it looks great and it's definitely one of the best implementations for it right now.

"Just over four months ago I announced that I was stepping down from the active role I had maintained in the Bodhi Linux project since it started a little over four years ago. Today I am happy to share that I am returning in my full capacity as project manager/lead developer and I come bearing gifts!" wrote the Bodhi Linux team leader Jeff Hoogland.

Some of the improvements for the OS include the Enlightenment 19.2 desktop, Linux Kernel 3.16, an Ubuntu 14.04 LTS core, and a new version of Terminology.

A complete list of changes can be found in the official announcement. You can download Bodhi 3.0.0 RC2 Reloaded right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should not be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
