Valve has a massive holiday sale and the Linux users can find quite a few interesting titles among them. We've put together a short list of must-have games that are also appreciated by the community.

Now that the Linux platform has gathered almost 1000 games, users will definitely find something to enjoy. On the other hand, there are a few titles that have been appreciated by the community and all of them are now available with sizable discounts. All of the promotions are scheduled to end on January 2, so there is plenty of time to get them.

All of these games are available on Steam for Linux, but there are other platforms providing Linux support, like GOG.com for example. We'll cover that distribution platform tomorrow and we'll see what their discounts are.

There is something for everyone

We made the list as varied as possible in an effort to provide everyone with something to enjoy. All gamers have certain preferences, so the titles in the list we made below are from different genres. They are not in any particular order and it's not a top, so any game you'll get is going to be great.

Portal 2 is definitely one of the best games made by Valve, although it's difficult to say that for certain, especially since all the games made by Valve are very good. In any case, it's one of the best puzzle FPS titles you can find on Steam for Linux. Players will find that Portal 2 provides a real challenge and now it is available with a 50% discount.

Kerbal Space Program is a different kind of game. It's actually a blend of multiple genres, but it's more like an economic simulation. The players' goal is to build a working space program, but the gameplay is actually much more complex than that. Testament to its quality is the fact that it's one of the best sold games on Steam for Linux despite it still being under development. The discount is just 25%, but it's worth every penny.

Bastion is an amazing action adventure game, with an amazing story and unique gameplay. The developers from the Supergiant Games studio released it on the Linux platform a long time ago and they are big fans of the open source operating system. The game comes with a big 60% discount.

Left 4 Dead 2 is a cooperative FPS title developed by Valve. It's one of the first games ported by Valve for Linux users and it was discounted numerous times. If you still don't have it, now would be a great time to get this amazing game. The servers are always full and there is no shortage of players, at any given time.

Sid Meier's Civilization V is the last one on our list. It's considered the best game in the Civilization series and it's one of the most played titles on Steam. The Linux port has just landed and now players can get it with a 50% discount.
