Unfortunately, the video is not available everywhere yet

Sony has released the first episode of its original PlayStation Network series "Powers" on YouTube, for everyone to see.

Unless you live outside the United States, that is. The video is not available in all countries and regions, of course, which means that you are going to have to play rogue if you want to watch it.

"Powers" is the first ever Sony-produced series, created especially for PlayStation, and the show's first season will be made available for free to all PlayStation Plus subscribers.

In order to give prospective viewers a taste of the action, the Japanese corporation has uploaded the first episode to its YouTube channel, so you can decide whether it's worth your time or not.

PS+ members are able to watch the first three episodes of "Powers" on the PlayStation Store, provided, of course, that they don't live in the wrong region of the world.

"Powers" is a dramatic series that follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are tasked with the investigations of cases that involve people with various supernatural abilities, called "Powers."

A twist on the traditional superhero story

"Set amidst today's paparazzi culture, Powers asks the questions, what if the world was full of superheroes who aren't actually heroic at all? What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals?" the show's description on the PlayStation website reads.

The members of the Powers Division are in charge of protecting humans and keeping the peace in a world were godlike men and women impose their power on the mortals who worship and fear them.

The original universe does not conform to the classic rules of comic book superheroes and villains. The main characters are played by Sharlto Copley, Susan Heyward, and Michelle Forbes.

It appears that Microsoft isn't the only one making the jump from video games to original video entertainment. Halo: Nightfall, a similar live-action series based one of the company's biggest franchises, was released at the end of last year but wasn't received particularly warmly by fans.

We'll just have to wait and see whether a completely original online series fares better than one based on one of the most popular science fiction franchises of all time.
