Snapchat doesn’t want this application to exist in the Store

The dispute between Snapchat and well-known Windows Phone developer Rudy Huyn is escalating to new heights.

The story started after his 6snap app got removed from the Windows Phone Store at the request of Snapchat. But Huyn pulled himself back together and managed to produce a new app shortly afterwards.

The app is called 6discover and replicates one of Snapchat’s features called Discover.

This function allows users to read through content from MTV, CNN, Cosmopolitan, Food Network, National Geographic, Yahoo, Comedy Central, and other important publications.

But even though 6discover is not an app meant to be used as a newsreader and to access promoted contents of Snapchat’s Discover service, developer Rudy Huyn was still hit with a letter from Snapchat’s lawyers in which he is accused of “violation of federal and state law” out in the open, because he copied and/or reproduced the “Discover” content.

This week, Snapchat is taking yet another step towards boycotting the Windows Phone ecosystem, following their well-known pattern.

Snapchat gets even more serious

The company has now moved to file an IP infringement claim against this particular application in the Windows Phone Store.

However, this time, Huyn is admitting defeat. It’s understandable that he probably doesn’t have any more energy left in him to fight Snapchat’s rigidity, after pouring all of his time into trying to manage the conflict and come to an understanding.

So there you have it, Snapchat is once again getting what it wants and the 6discover app will be removed from the Windows Phone Store once and for all.

It’s a well-known fact that Snapchat has appeared overly eager to stump the development of the Windows Phone platform, which is quite strange.

Snapchat receives payments from all the publications accessible via its Discover service, so the feud against 6discover was initiated because the company couldn’t charge content accessible through Huyn’s app for Windows Phone.

Even so, the developer has showed willingness to work with Snapchat and transform the app in a way so it can provide the necessary stats in Analytics.

However, apparently Snapchat isn’t willing to do this, which doesn’t make any sense, since they are basically saying no to extra money. Is their hate for the Windows Phone platform all that great?
