Developer Square Enix released a brand new video from the upcoming highly anticipated role-playing game Final Fantasy XV, showing more of the gorgeous world that we’ll be able to visit sometime in the future.

The new footage debuted at Jump Festa, a major Japanese gaming, manga and anime convention, taking place this weekend.

The video, although short, shows a lot of new stuff, including a glimpse of Cid and Titan, two characters that have popped in and out of the long-standing series.

Titan looks appropriately monstrous and fearsome and Cid seems different from what most people would expect.

The Cids of the Final Fantasy franchise have taken many forms but shared some common traits, such as wisdom and a propensity toward tinkering. This time around, Cid is a hardy female mechanic, not afraid of some rough and tumble action with the game’s antagonists.

The trailer also sets the scene for the unfolding of events that follow the invasion of Insomnia, showing airships cluttering the skies and the team of intrepid adventurers discussing the best tactics to employ.

A long time in the making

Final Fantasy XV has been in the making for a really long time, and now it looks like we’re finally getting near its release date. Square Enix even talked about an upcoming beta test, dubbed Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae.

The beta test will be an exclusive offer, only packaged with the Day One run of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, the remake of the classic PSP title, so if you want to get your hands on it, you’d better hurry up and pre-order the game.

Game Director Hajime Tabata was pretty clear that there would be no other way to get into the beta, and apologized for not making it clear when Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae has initially been announced.

The director also revealed a bunch of new information on the demo, stating that it would feature a working summon, and that players would have the opportunity to try it out with both English and Japanese voiceover tracks.

Entering and leaving towns will be a seamless affair, with no loading screens, and Tabata would like for everything else to work that way, although for the time being nothing is set in stone.

Characters will need to rest once in a while, or suffer penalties. Players will be able to rest in towns, at inns, just like in the old titles in the series, and getting regular bouts of sleep will increase the duration of various buffs, such as those granted by food.
