Square Enix has unwittingly listed Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for the PlayStation 4 on its official store, breaking the mystery and foiling its announcement.

This comes just days after the company announced the upcoming release of Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation 4, in a move that instantly created the most excitement in the world among those present at the PlayStation Experience event in Las Vegas this past weekend, and in a couple of seconds managed to drain it completely, when everyone realized that Squeenix was actually porting the PC port of the PlayStation One original role-playing game.

Not even the superior PlayStation version, but an upscaled port of the PC port.

It looks like Square Enix aims to bleed the Final Fantasy franchise dry before making any attempt to actually deliver what the fans want, a proper Final Fantasy VII remake.

Granted, a proper remake of what is regarded by many as the gateway to Japanese role-playing games for an entire generation of western gamers is likely to fail due to the fact that childhood ended quite some years ago, and that what was considered cute and ground-breaking back then would turn out to be tedious and uninspired at best nowadays.

It’s worth it if you haven't played it

The official French Square Enix online store, The Square Enix Boutique, listed Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for the PlayStation 4 home entertainment system, complete with box art and everything.

The page, which has been swiftly removed, offered a prospective spring 2015 date for the remastered edition of the acclaimed role-playing game.

You can still find a cached page of the listing in case you have to see it with your own eyes in order to believe it, complete with the price.

The publisher has not issued any official statement regarding the upcoming launch, nor has it commented on the leak.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster bundles together the 1080p editions of the PlayStation 2 classics Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, and was initially released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita platforms earlier this year.

The start of the year will be pretty busy for Square Enix, since the Final Fantasy VII re-release is dated for spring as well, and the Final Fantasy Type-0 HD remaster is also slated for a March release.

There's also a bigger threat to our free time looming on the horizon, in the form of Final Fantasy XV, currently in the works and looking gorgeous, poised to become one of the most ambitious entries in the series yet.
