We announced last week the immediate availability for download and testing of the Fedora 22 Alpha operating system, which included the Live Workstation edition with the latest development version of the upcoming GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, and an Xfce spin that brought us the latest Xfce 4.12 desktop environment.

Additionally, the Fedora 22 Alpha release includes the KDE spin, which gives us a nice preview of the KDE Plasma 5 in Fedora, as well as the LXDE and MATE/Compiz spins that have been designed from the ground up to be deployed on low-end or old computers. Of course, Softpedia created in-depth screenshot tours for all the Fedora 22 Alpha editions.

We have even reported what’s new in the Fedora 22 Alpha Cloud edition, which Fedora Project thinks it’s a superb choice for running Linux in the cloud, but that depends on your personal choice, of course. The last edition of Fedora 22 Alpha is the Server, about which we will talk a little bit in this article.

What’s new in the Fedora 22 Alpha Server Edition operating system

The Fedora 22 Server Edition brings a handful of changes that promise to improve the performance of the Fedora Linux operating system for server usage. Two major features are included in this Alpha version, a PostgreSQL-based database server role, which aims to be a companion to the Rolekit damon introduced in Fedora 21, and an updated version of the Cockpit web-based management application that includes several new features.

As usual, you can download Fedora 22 Alpha Server Edition right now via Softpedia. Keep in mind, though, that it is an unstable operating system and we don’t recommend installing it on production machines. The rest of the Fedora 22 Alpha spins are also available for download on our dedicated Linux homepage.
