We’ve reported a few days ago that the Fedora 22 Alpha computer operating system has been released by Fedora Project for testing, and that it includes numerous features, among which we have mentioned the Xfce 4.12 desktop environment, as well as Linux kernel 4.0 Release Candidate 1 (RC1).

In the respective article, we have also mentioned that Fedora 22 Alpha comes with many enhancements from the GNOME 3.16 Beta desktop environment, such as the revamped GNOME Shell theme, GNOME 3.16’s brand-new notification system that is integrated into the calendar applet, Nautilus improvements, and many other goodies.

At the request of our users, we have grabbed the Fedora 22 Alpha Live Workstation DVD and took it for a test drive on our testing laboratories, creating an in-depth screenshot tour, because a picture is worth a thousand words. So make sure that you check out the gallery below if you want to see what GNOME 3.16 will look like on Fedora.

“As always, Fedora carries a number of improvements to make life better for its desktop users! Here’s some of the goodness you’ll get in Fedora 22 Workstation edition,” said the Fedora development team in the official release announcement for the Fedora 22 Alpha operating system.

GNOME 3.16 will be a major release that brings awesome features

Because Fedora 22 Alpha Live Workstation’s release notes mention the features of GNOME 3.16 Beta, we feel obliged to mention them too in this article. Therefore, the notification system has been revamped and integrated into the Calendar applet, the pop-up notifications now come from the top of the screen, and there are various improvements to the Nautilus (Files) file manager that let users undo deleted files and provide for a more consistent experience.

In addition, the built-in Terminal app will notify users when a job finishes, the GDM (GNOME DIsplay Manager) login screen drops X11 in favor of the next-generation display server, Wayland, the Automatic Bug Reporting Tool offers better notifications and makes use of the Privacy section of GNOME’s Control Center, the GNOME Software app now handles the installation of codecs, and there’s a refreshed GNOME Shell theme that has a flat style.

All Fedora 22 Alpha editions and spins are available for download on Softpedia

As usual, you can download Fedora 22 Alpha Live Workstation right now via Softpedia, or directly from the Fedora Project website. Please note that this is an unstable operating system that contains known and unknown bugs, thus it is not recommended to be installed and used on production environments where stability is a must.

On our dedicated download section, we offer torrents for both 64 and 32-bit ISO images of the Fedora 22 Alpha Live Workstation distribution. Other Fedora 22 Alpha official editions and spins with the KDE Plasma 5, Xfce, LXDE, MATE/Compiz, and SoaS desktop environments can be found on our Linux homepage.
