Ubisoft confirms that its long-awaited Far Cry 4 first-person shooter is now in gold status, meaning work on it is complete and it's ready for the official launch in the middle of November across a multitude of platforms.

The Far Cry series hasn't enjoyed the same amount of success as Ubisoft's other big franchises, like Assassin's Creed, but with 2012's Far Cry 3, the series proved that it could achieve not just great sales but also stellar acclaim when it came to critics.

The game spawned a tongue-in-cheek expansion in the form of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Ubisoft quickly confirmed that a new installment was already in development, in the form of Far Cry 4.

The game finally got announced earlier this year, and since then, Ubisoft has rolled out quite a lot of gameplay videos, screenshots, and other such things showcasing the new first-person shooter in action.

Far Cry 4 goes gold

After presenting the competitive Battles of Kyrat multiplayer mode, Ubisoft now confirms that Far Cry 4 has reached gold status, meaning that the development team has finished working on the final version of the game. From now on, the title will be sent to the printing plant, where discs for the different platforms will start being made.

The game will roll out across a multitude of devices, starting from the PC to last-gen consoles in the form of PS3 and Xbox 360, and new-generation ones, namely PS4 and Xbox One.

Many ambitious elements are included in the new shooter

Far Cry 4 Executive Producer Dan Hay also has taken the chance to explain the many ambitious and innovative gameplay mechanics that have been added to the regular shooter experience, while congratulating the team on its efforts.

"When I look back at Far Cry 4’s development, I’m amazed at what the team pulled off. We added verticality. We gave the player the ability to fly. We gave them the ability to fly in co-op. We gave them the ability to fly and have the other player down on the ground running around while they’re flying," he says, via Ubiblog.

"We made the number of encounters way higher. The encounters are different, and the animals are different. The characters are unique, and your friends will have subtly different experiences with the story. I’m proud of both the quality and the sheer volume in Far Cry 4."

Far Cry 4 is scheduled to launch on November 18 in North America and November 20 in Europe and the rest of the world.
