Even removed content will remain playable

A lot of gamers were very annoyed when they saw that, earlier in the week, Far Cry 4 became unplayable for all those who owned it after it was temporarily removed from the official Xbox Store because of a problem on the part of Microsoft.

Now the company is explaining that it wants to make sure that all content that was purchased legally at any point remains available, even if it is then removed because of reasons that are not linked to the player community.

VideoGamer says that a representative from Microsoft explains that “If customers own the rights to a game, they can visit their download history and initiate a re-download whenever they please - even if the game has been delisted from Xbox Store and is no longer available for purchase.”

When Far Cry 4 became impossible to play, some believed that the company was trying out a new approach for the Xbox One.

But Microsoft is not at the moment willing to explain the cause of the earlier incident.

The company adds, “On Monday, some users were unable to access their digitally purchased base edition of Far Cry 4. Our team has resolved the issue and all access to the title has been restored.”

Publisher Ubisoft also failed to offer an official reaction.

The Xbox One was supposed to have an entirely new approach to content delivery

When the new home console from Microsoft was first announced, the company explained that it was looking to implement a new way of dealing with content, which would make games and movies available to a family as long as stronger DRM was implemented.

The community reacted negatively and the concept was dropped.

The Xbox One Far Cry 4 problems might be linked to remnants of this approach.

At the moment, the Xbox One is behind the PlayStation 4 from Sony in terms of sales, but it has managed to close the gap in the past two months, when Microsoft introduced a price cut that has since expired and some solid deals for Christmas and Black Friday.
