You don’t need to be Facebook friends with those contacts

Good news for Facebook Messenger users on Windows Phone platform, as developers have announced that a small update bringing major new features and improvements has just been released.

The most important change is the fact that you will now be able to send messages through Facebook Messenger to people that you are not Facebook friends with yet.

This means that you must use the phone contacts list to send any messages through the application. Make sure that you tap “People” in the application to sync with your phone contacts, and then just use the phone number of the person you want to message.

Another nice feature that’s been included in the latest update is the ability to add colorful drawings and text-to-photos from pictures in the camera roll before sending them to your friends.

As expected, Facebook also added some under-the-hood improvements, which are supposed to make the application faster than any previous version. A fair number of bugs have been addressed in the update as well, though no details are provided by Facebook.

You can now download Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone 9.0 for free via Windows Phone Store. Keep in mind that the application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 8 and up.
