14 DAY TRIAL // Since August this year, one of the hottest actors right now, British “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson, has been dating British singer FKA Twigs, who also happens to be very hot right now because of her most recent album and her unique style and sound.
As ridiculous as it might sound, their relationship wasn’t received well by fans of the actor, specifically those who dub themselves Twihards: fans of the “Twilight” franchise who still believe Pattinson and his ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart, who also played his romantic interest in the films, should be together for the rest of their life.
These fans didn’t just disapprove of the romance, they also took to social media to send nasty messages to Twigs, including death threats and racist remarks. Yes, we live in that kind of a world.
FKA Twigs and the brush with instant and unexpected fame
Twigs has been working in the industry for a very long time: before she decided to pursue a solo music career, she was a ballet dancer and then a backup dancer for acts like Jessie J and Ed Sheeran. She’s had some success before, but she never got the kind of media attention she’s been receiving since she was first photographed by the paparazzi holding hands with Pattinson.
It took them some time to stop hiding from the media, and the Twihards’ reaction probably played a part in it, from what she’s telling USA Today in a new interview.
Not that she pays too much attention to what “14-year-old kids that should be in bed” have to say online, hiding behind their computer screens, under the cover of anonymity, but she finds it disconcerting that her personal life would elicit this kind of media coverage.
She has nothing but harsh words for it. “I really enjoy the fun of putting something out and people liking it or hating it or talking about it, but vacuous attention, it feels disgusting. It’s like a hangover,” she says. “It’s weird, I know that’s not really because of me or what I’m doing, ” but nevertheless, “the positivity that I get from (my relationship) makes the more challenging aspects… very worth it.”
And so, with just a few well-chosen words, FKA Twigs has shamed Twihards who scooped this low as to send her threats on social media and proved that she’s above that.
Say what you will, but with how talented and well-spoken she is, it’s no wonder Robert Pattinson is even willing to get silly haircuts for her. Check out the gallery below to see just how silly it is.
Robsten no more
What this means for the Twihards who were still hoping he would get back with his cheating ex is that that will never happen. Robsten, as the couple was known, is no more – and will never be again.
Kristen and Robert met on the set of the first “Twilight” movie and supposedly became romantically involved right then, but for a couple more years, they played it coy in coming out in public as girlfriend and boyfriend.
They eventually did it and the fans loved every second of the media attention they got. Meanwhile, they also became tabloid fixtures, with countless reports about an imminent wedding, baby news, or more scandalous stories making the covers weekly.
Then, in the summer of 2012, the unexpected happened: Kristen Stewart was photographed making out in a parking lot with Rupert Sanders, who had directed her in “Snow White and the Huntsman.” The fact that Sanders was also married at the time only made the scandal bigger.
Because they still had one “Twilight” movie to promote, Robert gave her another chance (or made it seem this way) right before the release. They broke up afterwards for good, with FKA Twigs being his first longterm relationship since the breakup.
