The first big announcement about FIFA 16 is that, after years of requests, the developers at EA Sports are introducing women's football to the series for the first time, with players able to choose from a total of 12 national teams and use them in the core modes.

David Rutter, the vice president and general manager of the team in charge of the football sim, says his company is aiming to show the beauty of the women's game to the millions of fans of the franchise.

He adds that authenticity is one of the core elements of the title and that as much attention has been paid to their side of the game as to that inhabited by men.

Player movement for women in FIFA 16 has been captured by EA Sports via a dedicated team at the Canada location, using as templates four of the most important players of the United States national team: Sydney Leroux, Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan, and Megan Rapinoe.

The developers are adding new walks, run, sprints and other types of movement to accurately represent the way women players move across the pitch and interact with the ball.

A special mobile head scanning unit was used to capture the faces, and the hairstyles of players from the 12 included teams.

FIFA 16 aims to show the way football is evolving

Abby Wambach, a forward for United States Women’s National Team, is quoted by EA Sports as saying that, "We’re all excited to see ourselves in the game, but even more excited to see the reaction from all of the fans, including the fans of our team that maybe wouldn’t be expecting something like this from EA SPORTS."

Alex Morgan says that she is also happy to be part of FIFA 16 but that she played mostly Mario Kart as a kid.

EDA Sports will offer more details about the way the football sim is evolving in the coming weeks and fans are expecting tweaks for both the single player and the Ultimate Team mode.

FIFA 16 is at the moment set to be launched on September 24, and the core version of the title will be offered on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

Legacy installments will be offered for those who like football on the Xbox 360 and the PS3.
