Photo and video capture devices are usually just that: photo and video capture devices. They can't share data, except if you pull out their storage device (the memory card as it were) and stick it inside a terminal of some sort.

The new XQ2 that Fujifilm put together is one of the rare models which can also transfer files, be they photo or video, to other devices.

And we don't mean through Universal Serial Bus, although we suppose there are enough models that use that interface for it, so maybe cameras with transfer capabilities aren't technically that rare.

Still, with how people tend to favor using the memory cards directly even when USB is available, they may as well not count.

In any event, Fujifilm has endowed the XQ2 photo and video camera with Wi-Fi technology. The other specifications are otherwise conventional.

The specs of the XQ2 photo and video compact camera

A 12-megapixel 2/3-inch X-Trans CMOS II sensor is tasked with capturing images and video, while an EXR Processor II image engine processes incoming feeds.

An F1.8 - F4.9 lens with x4 optical zoom allows you to change perspective prior to a shot, or during a video. This can be supplemented by the x4 digital zoom when needed. A Lens Modulation Optimizer helps with quality and clarity.

The ISO ranges from 100 to 12,800, so you probably won't get the best images at night, unless you're photographing bright landmarks like Christmas trees loaded with light bulbs.

Moving on, the newcomer can shoot things in RAW format or employ any one of the several integrated filters available: Soft Focus, Miniature, Pop Color, High/Low Key and others. The RAW images can even be converted to JPEG through the in-camera converter if necessary.

As for films, you can record them in Monochrome, G filter, Astia, Classic Chrome, and other modes, in 60 fps and with minimal, if any, jitters. The camera can adjust for shaking hands apparently.

Finally, the view screen is a 3-inch LCD with 85-degree horizontal/vertical viewing angles and 920k-dot quality.

Availability and pricing

The Fujifilm XQ2 camera will sell with leather and waterproof cases in black, silver and white colors (the cameras, not the cases). Sadly, the company did not share the pricing details, but sales should begin soon enough.
