The game might be really close to a Linux release

Empire: Total War, the real-time strategy game built by The Creative Assembly and published by Sega, is now showing up in the Steam for Linux library.

The Total War series was one of the first games teased for Linux back when Steam was just announced, along with the Steam Machines consoles. It took the developers a long time to make it happen, but now they seem to be really close. In fact, getting the game to download in the Steam client means that they are probably having a restricted Beta test, so the launch date can't be too far in the future.

The port for the Mac OS X platform was done by Feral Interactive and it's a good bet that they will do the same with the Linux version, although it's not a guarantee.

"For the first time in the Total War series, you will be able to intuitively command single ships or vast fleets upon seascapes rich with extraordinary water and weather effects that play a huge role in your eventual glorious success or ignominious defeat," reads the Steam entry.

The information about the Linux version was spotted by a Reddit user, who also took a screenshot. It's not entirely impossible to see the game disappear from the library.
