A new Beta has been released for this distro

Elive, a Linux distribution that uses Debian as a base and Enlightenment as the default desktop environment, has been upgraded to version 2.5.0 Beta. The devs are still making some important changes and this latest release is proof of that.

Elive is a special kind of distribution because the developers are using a different kind of version numbers. They had a lot of Beta releases in the past few weeks, but the version of the distribution is advancing quite rapidly.

In any case, it looks like there are still important modifications to be made and that means that we won't get to see a stable version any time soon, although there hasn't been any indication that the devel cycle is not coming to an end.

It's also important to know that Elive is not your average Linux desktop experience. For the most part everything works the same with any Linux distro you've seen so far, but the desktop is rather different.

The design will require users to learn some new things in order to get the most of it, but it's really worth it if you want to experience something special.

Elive 2.5.0 Beta features kernel improvements

The OS is no longer upgraded for the visual experience and the devs have been making changes to some of the core components, like the Linux kernel. These changes should improve the entire desktop experience and performance.

"As you may know we ship with elivized kernels from Debian backports, this means that they are very good quality kernels with some few modifications by Elive, recently there was also included the CKT patches that includes a good amount of bugfixes, expect rock-solid stability in Elive! Finally, we are also trying the BFQ and BFS patches which are meant to improve the desktop interactivity and overall speed of the system."

"One of the most important things when you are working in your terminal is to know where and who you are, but include this information in a non-obtrusive way is not easy, minimalism is a good concept but even more important 'don't do it if you don't need to', so the terminal will only show your username if you are not the default system’s user," reads the official website.

More details about this distribution can be found in the official announcement. You can download Elive 2.5.0 Beta right now from Softpedia. It's a little bit more stable than the previous version, but it's still under development. It might not be safe to get it on a production machine.
