Star Citizen is still a PC exclusive, so Elite: Dangerous might just be the best space opera game on consoles

Microsoft's head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, made a bunch of interesting reveals regarding the future of the Xbox One platform, during this year's edition of the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco.

Spencer revealed that Elite: Dangerous would be coming to the Xbox One home entertainment system sometime this summer, making its console debut on Microsoft's platform.

There were rumors about a possible console port of Elite happening as early as last July, way before the game was even released on PC, when Frontier Developments head David Braben mentioned that the space opera game would eventually make the jump to more platforms.

Back then, he tried to word it so that it would not be misconstrued as a definitive announcement, but it seems that the team was working on getting the game up and running on consoles.

No word on PS4 version yet

For the time being, there is no info on when the game will be coming to Sony's PlayStation 4, or even if, which means that for a while Elite: Dangerous will be Xbox One's answer to No Man's Sky.

Granted, No Man's Sky looks great but is setting up to be devoid of any meaningful content when compared to the spiritual successor to the classic Elite. When given the chance to enjoy peaceful exploration or being a space pirate, the choice is pretty obvious.

Developer Frontier Developments is no stranger to Microsoft's eight-generation console, as the studio has just released ScreamRide, an Xbox 360 and Xbox One exclusive rollercoaster construction simulator with a dark and humorous side.

One of the game modes has you load riders on a capsule and them throw them at buildings in order to make them explode.

For the time being, Elite: Dangerous is in ongoing development on PC, with a massive patch currently in the works, expected to hit beta by the end of the month.
