The Elephone seems to be quite an exciting device

Elephone’s upcoming P6000 model is shaping up to be quite an interesting little device. The phone, quite similar in design to the Xiaomi Mi2, is currently in development and will probably be launched soon.

So far we’ve known that the P6000 will be the first phone to launch with the 64-bit quad-core MediaTek MT6732 chipset. The system will be fitted with 2GB of RAM and will have a 13MP camera up in the front plus a 2MP one on the back and LTE.

The MediaTek MT6732 is a 64-bit quad-core chipset with ARM Cortex A53 CPU and ARM Mali-760 GPU built on it. The platform is said to be low on battery consumption and bring about high performance and efficient compatibility with 32-bit apps.

Elephone P6000 shows up on the company's official website

Now, Elephone has updated its website in order to include this particular model, revealing a crucial detail about the upcoming handset. It will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

As far as I’m aware, there aren't any Chinese phones coming with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, announced or currently launched on the market, so if you are looking for a taste of Lollipop, you better keep an eye on Elephone.

The 5-inch HD screen is apparently covered with what’s being called a Blue Light Tempered Glass. The technology filters out all high-frequency blue light and avoids the penetration of blue light so you can see everything better on the display.

The smartphone also benefits from H.265 HEVC video coding standard, which is considered a great improvement over the H.264. H.265 is capable of transmitting quality video under limited bandwidth network and comes with support for 1080 (1920 x 1080 pixels) video.

This budget smartphone might come out by the end of 2014

The best thing about this handset is that it is going to be priced at just $170 / €137, if we are to believe the rumors making rounds on the web.

We still don’t have a clear idea on when the smartphone will launch into the wild, but hopefully it will be sometime this month.

Elephone seems to be rolling out smartphones at the same fast rate as well-established tech giants in the industry do, for example Samsung.

And each smartphone is better than the last model, especially hardware wise. Now Elephone is bringing the first Android 5.0 Lollipop handset that sells for an acceptable price. Way to go!
