Good news for role-playing game fans who would rather enjoy their fantasy hacking, slashing and spell-casting on consoles: Elder Scrolls Online for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 is still in the cards.

ZeniMax Online promised to deliver its popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game to consoles a while back, but the company has kept quiet during the past few months.

Now, the latest blog entry on the game's official website comes bearing a reassurance that the development team is still hammering away at the colossal MMORPG, intent on bringing it to home entertainment systems sometime in 2015.

The update is promising, as Game Director Matt Firor states that the team is steadily working on the console version of the title, which is currently in a playable state inside the studio. Furthermore, the team is working hard to make sure that the Justice and Champion systems, currently in development, will be included in the console release.

"There's still some work to do before we can set an official launch date. First and foremost, we want to make sure that two of our most important systems still in development — the Justice and Champion Systems — are included in the console release. Those two systems will introduce a huge amount of content to the game, and we know everyone is looking forward to the new types of gameplay they provide," Firor says.

Not your everyday port

Firor assured fans of the video game that the console editions of Elder Scrolls Online were not just straight-up ports of the PC version, but that a lot of work went into making sure that they feel right at home on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems.

The console editions will ship with a completely revamped interface, designed from the ground up with console-specific features in mind, in order to accommodate for a "controller and living room play experience."

In addition to this, the team has already added full voice chat and voice commands compatibility with both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and Firor promises that more information will be made available in early 2015.

In other news, the Justice and Champion systems will make an appearance on the test realms at the beginning of January, when Update 6 hits.

The Champion System will include some post-level 50 veteran progression changes that have been in the works for a couple of months, and the Champion System will introduce the ability to spend points in Champion Passives, and will feature many changes to complement the system, which has been progressively worked into the game throughout updates 4 and 5.
