Along with the release of Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS (Trusty Tahr) GNU/Linux computer operating system, as announced by Adam Conrad on behalf of Canonical, the Edubuntu team was also proud to announce earlier today, February 20, the immediate availability for download of Edubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, a release that includes new kernel and graphics stacks.

Just like Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, the Edubuntu 14.04.2 LTS operating system, which is also supported with security patches and package updates for 5 years, until April 2019, is powered by Linux kernel 3.16. This means that newer hardware components should now be supported by the OS.

“The Edubuntu team is proud to announce Edubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, which is the second Long Term Support (LTS) update as part of the Edubuntu 14.04 5 years support cycle. This point release includes all the bug fixes and improvements that have been applied via updates to Edubuntu 14.04 LTS since it has been released,” was stated on the distribution’s website.

The graphical installer received various improvements

The graphical installer of Edubuntu 14.04 LTS has also been improved as various issues have been addressed in this point release. In addition, numerous packages have been updated to their latest versions, as of February 20, 2015. Please note that there is no need to download the new ISO images if you have either Edubuntu 14.04 LTS or Edubuntu 14.04.1 LTS installed, just make sure that the installation is up to date.

The 14.04.2 point release is a maintenance version of the LTS (Long Term Support) edition of Edubuntu designed with a single goal in mind, to keep the educational-oriented version of Ubuntu stable and reliable. You can download Edubuntu 14.04.2 LTS right now via Softpedia or from the distribution’s website.
