Electronic Arts is currently seeking a Narrative Designer to work on its EA Sports projects so that better stories and experiences can be told in their respective single-player modes. As of yet, however, it's unclear when the new FIFA or Madden games might boast proper narratives.

Electronic Arts' Sports label has a reputation of pumping out yearly sequels with minimal new features and just updated team rosters, whether they focus on American football, through Madden NFL, soccer, through FIFA, or other sports like basketball, hockey, or even golf.

While most titles are praised for their mechanics and experiences, one key area that's a bit lacking is the single-player mode, as they mostly relate to players controlling a nameless coach that leads and manages a team to many victories.

Expect bigger single-player story modes in future sports games

However, it seems that EA wants to change the single-player aspects of its sports games, as it's currently looking for a Narrative Designer.

The job listing confirms that the new position focuses on delivering a great script and story experience with believable characters to fans, while promoting these ideals to the rest of the team.

"The Narrative Designer will bring the player's experience to explosive life in its story-telling mode, championing story to the team and ensuring that script, speech and story-telling devices are tuned to achieve a gripping emotional narrative experience. You will create characters that game players fully embrace and bond to, and will capture emotional experiences that drive the story forward through non-linear storytelling techniques," the studio explains.

The best candidates should have extended experience when it comes to crafting video game stories, so EA's goals are certainly ambitious as it wants a veteran.

As of yet, however, it's unclear starting when sports fans can expect better narratives in their FIFA or Madden experiences. Once things get nailed down, you can bet that Electronic Arts will make a big deal out of it as such a feature can certainly draw in newcomers.
