There is no 32-bit edition for this distro

ExTiX 15.1 64-bit, a distribution based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS that uses the GNOME desktop environment, has been officially released and is now ready for download and testing.

The ExTiX developers have upgraded the look of the distribution and they also chose another base of the operating system. They have switched from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS to Ubuntu 14.10. Also, the desktop has been changed quite a lot and is now a lot closer to the vanilla experience. Some users might wonder why that was necessary, to have yet another vanilla-looking GNOME distro out, but it's here so we might just enjoy it.

ExTiX doesn't get too many big updates, so this is a good time to take a closer look at it. You can check the screenshot tour below and see for yourself what the new version looks like. It's quite different from the previous iteration, which has a nice dock and a few other features.

ExTix doesn't seem interesting, just plain looking

Despite the fact that the distribution is now based on the latest GNOME version, 3.14, and it uses a much newer kernel, customized for this job alone, it still feels like a redundant operating system, although some of the core components are quite different from its base.

"ExTiX Gnome is now based on Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn. Gnome has been upgraded to version 3.14. (Not in Ubuntu's repositories). All packages have been updated to the latest version by 150104. Kernel 3.16.0-21-exton is used. (Kernel.org's kernel 3.16.4)," say the devs.

Also, the makers of the distro added Google Chrome, the BlueGriffon Web Editor, and a few other apps. The operating system is also capable of running straight from RAM. Users just have to choose the option copy to RAM from GRUB and then remove the stick when the process has been completed.

Check the official website for more details about this release. You can download ExTiX 15.1 64-bit right now from Softpedia. Keep in mind that the developer doesn't make a 32-bit version of this distribution.
