Developer Turtle Rock Studios has delivered a piece of very good news for fans of Evolve who are interested in picking up the game but worried about competition.

The upcoming multiplayer-oriented first-person shooter will also ship with an offline mode, to cater to those who aren’t big fans of online gameplay.

The game was created mainly for competitive play, pitting a team of four hunters against a single player in control of a giant monster. The four hunters each belong to a different class, and each class has a few different characters, enabling a variety of team compositions.

The monsters also come in a few different flavors, and so far Turtle Rock has showcased the Goliath and the Kraken, having just recently unveiled the Wraith, a more stealth-oriented beast.

The Goliath is a monster that relies on brute strength and its massive hit points and armor to take down the Hunter team, while the Kraken is a more nimble monster, putting his agility to good use.

The action takes place on the fringes of the known universe, where mining for valuable resources takes place. The only catch is that the local wildlife doesn’t always agree that progress comes at a price that it has to pay, so the more feral specimens are picketing the industrial exploits.

You can also play with bots

Evolve’s online mode enables users to choose certain AI-controlled opponents, with full control over what game modes are being played and how, with none of the competitive pressure that playing with other humans entails.

Everyone can play the entire game, including the Evacuation mode, with bots, experiencing the same content that online play offers.

The offline mode goes even further, offering players the ability to swap positions with the bots and assume control of any one of them at will, when playing on the Hunters' side.

In addition to this, you won’t have to wait on the dropship or get help in order to be saved from Mega Mouth.

In order to provide a better look at how playing offline works, Turtle Rock has released a gameplay video, which you can watch below.

The feature is a welcome one, since adding the option to play with bots can enable newcomers to get the basics of the game down without impacting the experience of other players.

Furthermore, this also enables users to enjoy multiplayer-oriented games when there aren’t enough players available online.

Evolve is coming out on February 10, headed to the Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms.
