Sneaking around, feeding, and fighting smart are essential

Evolve launched last week and finally brought forth its ambitious competitive shooter experience. Unfortunately, the title has a rather steep learning curve and, while it makes players embark on a tutorial right at the beginning, this can still be skipped, meaning important info can be lost on many players.

Fortunately for you, we have a few tips concerning the game, gathered after posting the Evolve review on Xbox One last week.

Some basic Monster tips

First up, as a general rule for all the three different monster types: sneak around. Yes, you move more slowly while sneaking around, but it makes it much harder for hunters to track you down and it prevents some bad situations, such as causing flocks of birds to scatter and signal your location.

You can also combine sneaking with regular sprinting and jumping, in order to leave a set of tracks, and then double-back, in order to further confuse hunters who don't have the trapper Maggie and her pet trapjaw, Daisy. While we're also on that topic, try to use rivers and lakes, as you don't leave tracks on them.

Of course, another important aspect of playing a monster in Evolve is feeding until you reach level three. While you can certainly pick a fight with hunters whenever you want, it's for the best to just kill wildlife, devour their bodies, and evolve in order to have maximum health and damage output. In between fights, even if you're at level three, consume wildlife to regenerate your armor. Your health doesn't fill back up, so always try to flee if your armor is gone.

While evolving is important, don't do that while there are hunters nearby. During the evolution animation, they deal double damage and you're vulnerable to area of effect abilities, such as the orbital strike, so get some distance, find some cover, and power up in silence.

At some point in a match, you'll have to fight the hunters, but while things can get quite hectic, try to keep a clear head and focus on important members, starting with the medic, in order to avoid dealing with constantly healed opponents. The trapper is also important, as depending on the character chosen by the hunter, he or she can really impede your combat.

Retreating isn't shameful in Evolve, but try to consider the overall situation, because if you manage to take down one or two hunters, you should dispatch of the remaining two before their buddies respawn, as the odds are certainly in your favor.
