Turtle Rock uses a consumer perspective for DLC

The different downloadable content that will be released for Evolve, the new multiplayer shooter from Turtle Rock Studios, won't trick people into paying money for things they don't need, nor will it employ pay-to-win tactics in order to give a distinct advantage to those who do end up purchasing it.

Evolve launches next month and many different people are looking forward to the debut of the impressive online game, which promises to deliver an intense multiplayer experience. Four players, who control a team of hunters, face off another human being, who controls a monster in the game, and like with any multiplayer experience, DLC will arrive after launch.

However, Turtle Rock is adamant about not splitting up the community, so it's going to release all the new maps for free, while new monsters and other such things will be available at a price.

Evolve's DLC won't try to trick people

Even so, the studio makes it clear that it's looking at DLC from a consumer perspective and doesn't want to trick fans into paying for perceived advantages.

According to Turtle Rock's Creative Director Phil Robb, who talks with Destructoid, the main goal is not to hoodwink fans with Evolve's different DLC packs.

"We have the game set up in such a way that we can expand upon it if that is the desire," Robb says. "Our plan is one we pushed for as consumers. Never split the community, no pay to win, all that kind of [expletive] that are hallmarks of DLC plans specifically made to leech money out of people. If we're going to make money we want to feel good about the way we've done it. We don't want to feel like we've hoodwinked people."

DLC isn't a bad thing, Robb believes

The developer also highlights that the instinctual reaction to downloadable content is a negative one and that's quite puzzling, especially when it comes to people who are really enjoying a game.

"I don't quite understand the knee-jerk negative reaction to DLC. Because I know for me, as a gamer, when I have a game I really love and I play it for a while and I want more, I want more. I'll pay for it. I don't mind."

Evolve already has its first big premium DLC lined up, as those who pre-order the game will get a fourth monster for free.
