Eva Mendes values her privacy more than any other celebrities out there, to the point where she was even refusing to answer questions about her dog in interviews. When she became romantically involved with Ryan Gosling, an actor with an incredibly following online, she knew she’d have to up her game in terms of keeping details from her private life from leaking to the press.

She’s been doing a fabulous job, because in September, she and Ryan welcomed a daughter together, and the world didn’t find out about the pregnancy until the last moment, right before the birth. The girl was named Esmeralda Amada, and Eva is talking about her for the first time in an interview with online publication Violet Grey.

The piece comes with a stunning spread with the actress, which you can also find in the gallery below.

Eva has no nanny yet, she’s exhausted

Because she’s usually so guarded about her private life, it’s surprising (in the most pleasant way, of course) to hear Eva offer so many details about her first brush with motherhood. She tells the magazine that she doesn’t have a nanny or a night nurse right now, but she’s not ruling out the possibility of getting one when she has to go back to work.

For the time being, she’s relying on help from the two grandmothers and many aunties, whom she calls whenever she has a first-time mommy problem. She admits she also checks out one mommy site, scrolling through the comments from other mothers, because this way she feels less alone.

Eva is exhausted and she’s often scared, as per her own admission. Motherhood is difficult but she’s managing it, with plenty of help and patience and the knowledge that, if it’s hard for her, it was several times harder for her own mother.

She also says that her baby has it the hardest of the two of them, because she has to adjust to this new life.

Privacy or the lack of it

One thing that worries Eva is knowing that “privacy will be an issue” for Esmeralda because of how famous her parents are. She and Ryan chose not to disclose the fact that she was pregnant as a way of getting back some control over what was shared in the media about their life.

“It’s such an intimate time for the mother, too. I know that it seems all very innocuous when you’re flipping through a tabloid at the doctor’s office or see a photo of a pregnant lady online, but I find the media’s ‘bump watch’ obsession to be both intrusive and stressful. So I made a decision to eject myself from it completely,” she says.

She was successful at it, because word of the pregnancy didn’t get out in the media until she was at least 7 months along. Even then, she didn’t confirm it and she made sure she avoided paparazzi attention, so the fans at home waiting for the pregnancy announcement got it when her publicist announced the pregnancy of baby Esmeralda Amada.

By the way, Eva and Ryan knew they were having a girl and they chose this name because they both love Victor Hugo’s character in “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” Amada means “loved” in Spanish.
