The team at the Paradox Development Studio is not yet ready to announce the name of the next expansion that will be launched for Europa Universalis IV, but they are offering details about the changes they will make to the core game mechanics.

A new diary from the studio explains that gamers will get a new, unique Devotion mechanic for Theocracies, which has an impact on tax income, prestige gain, and religious powers.

It can be gained from unity, being Defender of the Faith, and some national ideas, as well as by completing events.

Paradox adds, "Another unique mechanic for theocracies is the fact that they always have an heir, and they have somewhat of control of it. If you do not have an heir, you get a chance to select one heir. Heirs are age 40+ with random stats."

Government ranks will also be added to Europa Universalis IV, with all the nations included in the grand strategy title able to evolve between Duchy, Kingdom and Empire, with some special cases spread around the map.

Development and prestige will allow gamers to grow their nation and make it more powerful, allowing it to change its National Focus more often and get more bonuses for their political system.

Modders will also get more options with government ranks.

Europa Universalis IV is getting a number of other major changes

Paradox is also aiming to introduce a new Parliamentary system for the English monarchy, designed to better represent how the country was governed.

The warfare side of Europa Universalis IV is also being upgraded in order to make it harder for players to simply move around avoiding enemy armies and to generate more conclusive battles.

The most interesting change made to the grand strategy title is the addition of ways to improve a province using monarch points.

Gamers now have a chance to play a relatively small country in new ways, using their resources to evolve it so that it can challenge even sprawling but less development empires.

The development team is not yet ready to offer information on the theme of the new expansion for Europa Universalis IV or to talk about the moment when it might be launched.
