The development team at Paradox Development Studios is currently working on a new expansion for Europa Universalis IV, and one of the new additions in terms of mechanics is a way for the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire to create Free Cities, which played a major role in real world history.

A developer diary explains that the player can create up to seven Free Cities, all of them one-province countries with a minimum of 10 development which will turn into a special type of republican government.

A Free City will give the Emperor access to more imperial authority, as well as income and manpower, and it will also get bonuses to its development, but needs to be defended when attacked.

The entities cannot maintain their status if they leave the Holy Roman Empire or if they gain access to another province.

Paradox also states, "The next expansion lets you get even more control over your electors. If your religion is now official in the Empire, you can now spend IA to remove the Electorate status of your disloyal Electors."

Gamers will also now be able to take a pause when they are trying to westernize their nation in order to spend the power in different ways that can boost their country in Europa Universalis IV.

This means that events will no longer spawn, but unrest will still be present.

The new expansion for Europa Universalis IV will also introduce an option to retire an advisor, which will allow you to spend the money you would have needed to hire them. This will enable countries to get better options as long as they are ready to spend.

The expansion has not been named yet

Europa Universalis IV has managed to gain a solid audience since it was launched, but the development team has not yet offered an official name for the coming content.

Paradox will add some free features via an associated patch, and there are also plans to tweak existing concepts in interesting ways.

The studio says that it is also planning to make changes to religion, and both Buddha and Luther will be featured in an upcoming development diary.

The Europa Universalis IV expansion will probably be offered before the end of the year and will cost around 10 or 15 dollars or Euro.
