Developer Tindalos Interactive and publisher Focus Home Interactive released the launch trailer for Etherium, the futuristic real-time strategy game due out on March 25.

You can pre-order the game on Steam for a 10 percent discount, and to get immediate access to the multiplayer beta, which is currently going in full swing.

The game is one of the few non-Starcraft RTSes available, marking a pretty good start for 2015, alongside Petroglyph's Grey Goo. Strategy games are pretty niche, and classic real time ones are an even rarer sight, so Etherium deserves all the attention it can get.

The game is set in an original science fiction universe, following three different factions engaged in a deadly war for the control of a rare and mysterious resource known as Etherium.

The resource can only be located on a handful of planets in the galaxy, so it's your job to wrestle control of these precious few from your opponents.

An interesting mix of mechanics

In addition to the usual mix of mechanics, developing your base, creating infantry, tanks, and aircraft, you'll also be able to build giant colossi of war, and will have to brave not only the onslaught of enemy aggression, but also numerous weather anomalies and secondary factions, that you can either destroy or rally to your cause.

Each of the three different factions has its own strengths and weaknesses, including unique tactical command skills such as map scouting, climate control and planetary bombardment from orbit.

In addition to a single-player campaign, Etherium also supports up to four players to either team up or wage all-out war in deathmatches.

Real time strategy fans will surely rejoice at the prospect of something new to try their wits at. The launch trailer looks pretty good, pointing to the fact that Etherium will be pleasing from a visual points of view.

Hopefully, it will be able to live up to its graphics in the mechanics department, but we'll get to see for ourselves on March 25.
