Fixes, increased stability and performance improvements

Minutes ago, Apple released iOS 8.1.3 to the masses delivering bug fixes, stability improvements, and overall tweaks that enhance the performance of your iDevice.

Currently only available over the air (OTA), iOS 8.1.3 includes “bug fixes, increased stability and performance improvements,” according to the Cupertino, California-based Apple Inc.

Targets both iPhone and iPad

A rather terse set of release notes accompanies the release, with Apple revealing that iOS 8.1.3 has been designed to reduce the amount of storage required to perform future system updates.

Users who encountered issues signing into iMessage and FaceTime with their Apple ID should give it another shot after applying today’s update. It also improves Spotlight to properly display app results, and fixes an issue that interfered negatively with multitasking gestures on iPads. Lastly, the new firmware targets education standardized testing with new configuration options.

iPod touch left in the cold

Interestingly, Apple doesn’t seem to be offering up this update for iPod touch users. This, despite the fact that the fifth-generation iPod touch is an iOS 8-compatible device. We’re chalking this up as another indication that the player might be axed soon, or perhaps upgraded, if Apple still feels there’s some life left in its iPod business.

As usual, the Mac maker directs customers to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222 for information on the security content of this update, but its ongoing CDN issues are preventing the documentation from appearing in our browsers at the time of this writing.
