The Xbox One came out back in November of 2013, and while it didn't exactly experience impressive sales, Microsoft remained quite confident in its potential and kept on releasing monthly firmware updates designed to enhance features and add new advantages to the device.

The May update for the Xbox One system software is now live

After spending a few weeks in beta testing with Xbox Live preview members, the Xbox One May firmware update is finally available for download right now.

According to the Xbox Wire, lots of interesting features and enhancements are included in this fresh system software, starting with the possibility of recording, sending, and receiving voice messages.

More specifically, this long-awaited features allows Xbox One users to record audio and send the message to their friends, no matter if they're on the Xbox One or the older Xbox 360.

Existing features, like SmartGlass, have received new options. You can now use the SmartGlass app on the PC, or mobile device running Windows Phone, iOS, or Android to power on and off your Xbox One. Bear in mind that you need to be on the same home network as the console.

New Xbox One users will be met with an extra step while setting up the console, in which they can select the Power Mode. You can pick between Instant-on so that you can wake up the console using the "Xbox On" voice command, or Energy-saving, which consumes less power.

Last but not least, the Party chat system is getting dedicated servers to ensure less issues and a better experience. These servers begin rolling out in the near future for all regions, so expect things to get better soon enough.
