Sony has just rolled out two major firmware updates for its PS4 and its PS Vita platforms, bringing forth a series of impressive new features to the two home consoles, such as back-up to local storage, on PS4, and better Remote Play support, on PS Vita.

The PS4 and PS Vita platforms have been around for some time now and hardware maker Sony has rolled out quite a few different system software updates, in order to add fresh features, and to the chagrin of many users, increase stability through multiple small yet mandatory updates.

Today, March 26, two major firmware versions have just been released for both the PS4 and the PS Vita, and they're now available for download via the PlayStation Network online services.

The PS4 has a lot of new features

The PS4 firmware update 2.50, codenamed Yukimura, brings a huge amount of new features, chief among which being the ability to suspend and then resume games or applications. This option was requested for quite some time and now, after around a year and a half since the launch of the console, it's finally available.

Besides this great addition, the new system software also brings forth a system that enables users to back up the contents of their hard drive onto an external local storage option. The method is similar to the one already seen on the PS Vita and should prove useful for those that don't want to download huge games all over again.

Many different accessibility options have also been added by the new firmware to the PS4, so those with special needs can operate the console much more easily.

The PS Vita firmware brings just a few new options

Meanwhile, PS Vita firmware update 3.50 brings just an enhanced Remote Play support in tandem with the PS4 update, and a suite of accessibility options.

Both firmware versions are now available for download via PSN right now.
