There are too few racing games for the Linux users

There are a few racing games with Linux support on Steam, but that has been corrected by a new title called Distance that aims to provide Linux users with an unforgettable experience that blends the history and future of racing games.

Distance is described as a survival racing game and that is probably as close to a genre that you can get. Players need to finish the race where everyone is hunting everyone with weapons that can be found all over the track.

This might feel somewhat familiar and you wouldn't be wrong, but Distance is not just about that. Usually, racing titles in which players can use weapons don't have any other challenges, but the makers of Distance have made the gameplay much more interesting.

The cars in Distance are able to fly or to glide a short amount of time, they can do all sorts of acrobatics in the air, and they can get destroyed by environmental elements, like getting split in half by lasers. It might seem a little chaotic, but from the images and the video posted on the Steam website it looks like it's great fun.

Distance feels like it's taken from the Tron world

The levels are built with a complete disregard towards gravity and they seem to draw inspiration from Tron. The game has been in the works since 2013 and the developers initially went to Kickstarter to get the project going and now they want make their game available to Steam users.

"Distance is a survival racing game that combines the intense action of arcade racing with the exploration of an atmospheric world. You control a unique car that allows you to boost, jump, rotate, and even fly through a chaotic and twisted city. The world has a mysterious history, and as you explore you'll be able to uncover pieces of its past."

"The roads are treacherous and unpredictable with obstacles around every corner. Instead of doing laps on a loop, you'll be trying to survive to the end in the quickest time. Since your car has several abilities, it allows you to not only drive fast on the track but also upside down and on buildings and walls! You can also fly to discover new shortcuts and paths. You'll be able to take on the roads alone, or in multiplayer with your friends!" read the Steam synopsis.

The guys from Refract, the studio that's making this title, think that Distance will probably stay in Early Access for about 6 to 12 months. So far, the community has very high praise for the game, so they are on the right track.

More details about Distance can be found on the Steam website.
