Nippon Ichi Software has revealed that Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance will be released in North America and Europe sometime during fall 2015, exclusively on the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system from Sony.

The game's core focus is the idea of revenge, and the entire storyline revolves around the concept. The narrative follows demon emperor Void Dark coming to power and devastating many worlds, with the aid of his formidable army, The Lost.

The consequence of this is that the Overlords of the Netherworlds set up a coup, attempting to rise to power and to inflict retribution upon Void Dark.

The action will follow main characters Killia, Seraphine, Usaria, Christo and Zeroken, various individuals hailing from demon royalty, as they journey across the Netherworlds in their effort to rally the Overlords to their cause.

The game has over 40 different races and jobs, and a character stat-boosting system based on revenge. Disgaea 5 also ships with a brand new battle system, titled Alliance Attacks, which offers some special moves for characters whose relationships are properly aligned, much in the way Fire Emblem did it.

NIS has released a handful of screenshots and videos showing the characters, class types, and new gameplay systems at work, and you can see them all below.

New game systems

The Squad System will have you assign characters to roles of leaders and subordinates, bestowing various perks such as a partial experience boosts or stats increases.

Squads can level up by taking prisoners when battling, which can be accomplished using the right skills, and even as a post-battle reward. Captured units can even be persuaded to cooperate with your team, and level ups will unlock a ton of benefits.

Squads will also be able to pull off daring Squad Skills, enabling everybody within a given Squad to attack an enemy Squad simultaneously, damaging all the units at once, instead of having to target them individually.

Another new element is the possibility of using Magichange twice on monsters, to forge even more formidable weapons. The Double Magichange system results in much more potent weapons, that have even more exciting aesthetics than before.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance will also introduce five new classes to the roster, namely Pirates, Nine Tails, Phantoms, Teensy Devils and Wicked Bears, all of them with specific strengths and vulnerabilities.

The game will be available as both a physical and a digital release, and represents the sixth entry in the cult tactical role-playing game series started by NIS back in 2003. The game is scheduled to come out on March 26, 2015, in Japan.
