Capcom announces that Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition is currently in the making, headed for the Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms later this year.

The action takes place in a distant land, in the castle town of Fortuna, where a mystical group known as the Order of the Sword practices is cryptic religious rituals. The order worships Sparda, the demon warrior who fought to protect humans, and its members are hell-bent on exterminating all demons.

The storyline sees Nero, a young knight from the Order of the Sword, being tasked with locating Dante, the assassin who killed the Order's leader, just as mysterious demonic forces start manifesting all around the city.

The game will be available as a digital download, including the original release of Devil May Cry 4, as well as three new playable characters, the Legendary Dark Knight Mode, and a slew of other additions.

The definitive DMC4 experience

The original was released on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms back in 2008, selling over 3 million units worldwide. Now, the Special Edition is also getting Dante's twin brother Vergil, as well as Trish taking on Dante's missions in the main story campaign, and even the demon hunter Lady, for the first time in the DMC series.

The Legendary Dark Knight Mode will enable users to take on hordes of enemies, putting their skills to the ultimate test in a more challenging setting. Enemies spawn in bigger numbers, with buffed up vitality and strength, enabling players to pull off longer and more exciting combos.

In addition to the new content, Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition will also ship with some seriously powered-up visuals, supporting 1080p resolution and enhanced high-res textures, while working flawlessly at a crisp 60 frames per second, ensuring a smooth and fast-paced experience.
