The collaboration between developer Bungie, publisher Activision and Sony continues for the future of Destiny, and the three companies are now ready to confirm that they are working on a new expansion for the social shooter called The Taken King.

The expansion will be launched on both the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft, as well as older home consoles, on September 15 of this year.

Sony says that gamers who get the title on the Sony platforms will receive access to extra content, including another strike and more weapons.

The company has not offered specifics for the moment, but it will probably deliver more details in the coming days.

The Taken King was first revealed via leaks a few weeks ago and has since been confirmed by other sources as well.

They are saying that gamers will get access to an entirely new environment to explore and that one major feature will be added to Destiny.

All the three included classes will get access to variations, allowing players to differentiate and to specialize their characters.

The footage shown from The Taken King also suggests that gamers will get a major end-game raid designed to offer a stiffer challenge than ever before introduced by Bungie.

The developers are stating, "Oryx, The Taken King has arrived in our solar system, bringing with him a corrupted army to exact revenge on the Guardians who destroyed his son, Crota, and to consume our worlds. Arm yourself with newfound abilities, weapons, and gear. Defeat the Taken hordes. Make your way aboard the Dreadnaught, and face Oryx himself within his inner sanctum."

Destiny will continue to be updated via patches

Bungie has just delivered the 1.2.0.3 update for the shooter, which is designed to improve the overall Prison of Elders experience, mainly by making the boss encounter easier to get through.

The company says that it is continuing to listen to the feedback offered by the community and will continue to try and balance the social shooter the best it can.

Until September 15, when The Taken King arrives, players might also get tweaks to the most popular current modes.

Bungie has said that it has long-term plans for Destiny and that the game has the potential to be the first in its genre that can evolve indefinitely as long as the fans continue to play the main modes.
