Video game creator Bungie and publisher Activision are ready to deliver the first developer diary for their upcoming The Dark Below expansion for Destiny, with a focus on the gameplay that the new content will deliver to gamers who have remained engaged with the new shooter since it was first introduced.

Members of the development team are featured in the footage and offer more details about the concepts they have used to create it and how they want to change the core experience for players by introducing some cool new ideas.

The Dark Below is designed to introduce new locations, more enemies to fight and a range of new items to collect and equip.

At the same time, the level cap is increased for all characters, which should make them more powerful and able to deal with the tough challenge presented by the two new raids.

The storyline of the Destiny expansion deals with a powerful new threat to the existence of humanity which involves the appearance of a being of god-like power.

The new Crota's End raid will ask gamers to face the new enemy head on, cut down his minions and then find a way to take it out entirely before it can threaten Earth.

The Dark Below is set to be offered on December 9 on all platforms on which Destiny is at the moment available.

A major patch will accompany the expansion, although a full set of change notes is not yet available.

A focus on player engagement for Destiny in the long term

Since the social shooter was first introduced, its developers have talked about their plan to have it running for ten years.

This first expansion for Destiny is just the first step and the studio already has a second one in development, with launch set to take place in the summer of next year.

Bungie is also aiming to organize more events for its extensive community of players, with the Iron Banner set to return in order to offer a Players versus Player playground once some changes have been made.

At the same time, rewards are being offered for those who are willing to pre-order new content, signaling their long-term commitment to the title.

Destiny is also continuing to get updates that are set to improve connectivity for those players who still have issues, while also introducing better weapon balance based on the feedback offered by the community.
