After hearing the first bits of official information about the Prison of Elders cooperative mode included in the upcoming House of Wolves expansion for Destiny, fans can now enjoy fresh details from publisher Activision about the experience, its mechanics, and its rewards for skilled players.

Destiny launched back in September of last year and delighted quite a lot of people on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms around the world. Since then, Bungie has released multiple free updates with fresh content, but also major expansions like The Dark Below.

The second big DLC is set to appear later this month, in the form of House of Wolves, and already the studio has showcased some of its most important aspects, such as the new Reef social space or the Trials of Osiris competitive experience.

Prison of Elders gets a few in-depth details

Earlier this week, a special live gameplay demonstration was organized by Bungie to show off the Prison of Elders cooperative mode coming with House of Wolves to Destiny, and now publisher Activision shares some more details on its blog about the special experience.

First up, players can team up with strangers at level 28 for the Prison of Elders, but higher tiers, such as level 32 or 34 require a fireteam made out of friends, as the challenge ramps up exponentially.

The actual experience delivers five rounds as standard, each lasting three waves. These waves can include all sorts of different enemies, not to mention boss characters and special objectives. These goals include assassinating an enemy VIP, defusing mines at random locations, or other such things.

The waves also sport special modifiers that come with advantages or disadvantages. Eight modifiers are included right now, but new ones might be added over time.

While levels 28, 32, and 34 of Prison of Elders are composed of five rounds, the toughest level 35 adds a sixth one that includes the primary antagonist of House of Wolves, a powerful Fallen Kell named Skolas.

Completing any tier of Prison of Elders brings not only normal loot drops at the end, but also access to a vault filled with rewards. Higher levels also award tokens that can be used to unlock gear for purchase from Variks, a new vendor found in the Reef social space.

House of Wolves arrives for Destiny on May 19. Expect more details as we get closer to that date.
