Destiny is one of the most successful launches of the past few months and the development team at Bungie is ready to announce that, as of the weekend just before Christmas, exactly 12,869,066 players have gotten a copy of the social shooter and played it, even briefly.

The official announcement explains that they have created 22,932,276 Guardians and that the total number of hours linked to the experience currently stands at an impressive 872,404,449.

More than 500 developers are at the moment working to make sure that Destiny offers the best possible experience, and the company also says that the game will continue to evolve in interesting ways in the coming months.

Bungie claims, “This is your work as much as it is ours. As innumerable and immeasurable your ongoing contributions to our game may be, we numbered and measured anyway, attempting to sum the damage and devastation of a few million enlightened Fireteams.”

Other statistics associated with Destiny show that Atheon has been shattered 2.4 million times, and so far the recently introduced Crota’s End raid has been completed 769 times, with one of those successes linked to a Fireteam of just one player.

The team at Bungie also offers a rundown of the most interesting moments it has witnessed in the shooter since it was launched.

The Dark Below expansion for the shooter was deployed on December 9 on all platforms and it seems that the developers do not have any plans to deliver a new update before the end of the year.

A universe that aims to evolve and to remain engaging

Ever since Destiny was first unveiled, Bungie has claimed that it has a ten-year long development plan for its new universe.

A new House of Wolves expansion is set to be offered in the middle of next year.

Until then, gamers can continue to experience new events for the game, including a new version of the Player versus Player-focused Iron Banner event.

The company also wants gamers to continue to offer feedback on both mechanics and the narrative.

It will all be integrated into future updates for the social shooter.

A sequel might be introduced as soon as 2016 and Bungie has suggested that all progress made in the current incarnation of the game will be carried through.

At the same time, Destiny 2 might be better able to use the computing power of both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
