The company is not deploying update 1.1.1

The development team at Bungie and publisher Activision are announcing that they are taking down the servers of their social shooter Destiny on Tuesday, February 24, from 10 AM to 12 AM Pacific Time, in order to perform a number of maintenance tasks.

The announcement comes from the official Twitter account of the company and the studio also makes it clear that it will not deploy update 1.1.1 for the title at this time, although it still wants to deliver it before the end of February.

Bungie is not saying exactly what elements of Destiny will be affected by the server side maintenance, but apparently no gameplay mechanics will be impacted.

It's unclear whether the downtime will affect those playing the shooter or whether those who are logged into a multiplayer session will be able to continue to play during the period.

Bungie will announce if the server maintenance is taking longer than expected via its social media channels.

Destiny is ready for both an update and an expansion

The downtime is presumably required to lay the groundwork for the changes that will be made in update 1.1.1.

The biggest of them is a fix for the heavy weapons ammo problem which has affected the social shooter for a long time.

Bungie has also announced that it will introduce matchmaking for all weekly strikes, in order to encourage more cooperation in the community, and that it is making some changes to the user interface.

The studio has not yet delivered a full list of patch notes, but it will probably do so once the update is actually live for Destiny.

The title is also set to get a new expansion, called House of Wolves, during the second financial quarter of the year.

It is designed to add as much content as The Dark Below, which means that gamers will get another end-game raid, more strikes and a range of new weapons and items which can be used by Guardians which reach the new level cap.

Some leaks have already shown some of the coming content, but Bungie says that most of them are outdated and that it has a range of surprises prepared for all Destiny fans.
