Gamers will have to tweak their tactics for the experience

The development team at Bungie might have been focused on the launch of the Hard mode for the Crota’s End raid this week, but the studio has also been quietly working on introducing new mechanics for those who are more interested in the Player versus Player mechanics offered by the social shooter.

The official weekly update from the company states, “The Crucible is always there if you don’t have an appetite for a prolonged mission against seemingly impossible beasts. This week, you don’t even need six friends. All you need is one.”

Doubles is designed to allow two Guardian Fireteams to battle each other, with heavy ammo set to appear just once in a match and with revives enabled.

Lars Bakken, the developer who led the design of the new mode, explains that supers for each Guardian will be limited and the experience will reward solid tactics and good character builds.

He adds, “The goal here was about taking the rules we already have and mixing them up to create a fresh experience. Each player has the full weight of winning or losing placed squarely on their shoulders and nobody to blame but themselves... or their teammate. No pressure.”

As always, Bungie is asking all those who try out Doubles to then offer some feedback on the mode so that it can be improved via future hotfixes or expansions.

House of Wolves is the next big thing for Destiny

Bungie has not said whether it has plans to introduce other such Player versus Player-focused modes for Destiny in the coming weeks or it is shifting all its resources to create and launch the next major expansion, called House of Wolves.

A leaked set of images suggests that it will be introduced in the middle of March and that it will add about the same amount of content as the previous The Dark Below.

This means that Bungie needs to introduce another major end game raid that will deliver cool items for gamers and will allow them to evolve their Guardians towards a new level cap.

Even more content is planned for a bigger expansion that will arrive later in 2015.
