Gamers will need new weapons to face Crota

For a while now, the team at Bungie has told Destiny players to hold on to their exotics and make sure that they stay tuned for some new features associated with them, and just as The Dark Below is launching, the company is willing to deliver more information on the newly implemented Exotic Upgrade system.

In a new post on the official site, developers explain that Xur is allowing gamers to upgrade their Exotics, boosting both their attack and defensive values, with the top level now being 32, although that will result in a reset for perks.

Bungie says that gamers do not have to own The Dark Below in order to use the new system and that Xur will rotate his stock every week.

At the same time, all exotics introduced after December 9 will not require any sort of upgrade for the time being and gamers need to be careful about their selections because there is no way to get back used materials once they are committed.

Bungie adds, “To complete the upgrade process, you need to have an Exotic Shard and your Exotic. Once your Exotic is equipped, the option to upgrade your Exotic will appear. You may need to back out of the store menu to refresh any changes. Select the ‘Upgrade Weapon’ option and it will delete the current Exotic in your Inventory and the Exotic Shard, and in exchange gives you a revamped Exotic at the newest increased stats and power level.”

Trying to upgrade an exotic for a second time will also not result in any changes.

Destiny needs to remain finely balanced

With a video game that is constantly evolving, one of the biggest challenges is to make sure that the core balance is not affected by the addition of expansions, like The Dark Below.

Probably a similar process will be required for the items introduced in the current version of the game once the second major expansion is launched in the middle of 2015.

At the moment, gamers can explore an enhanced level cap and they need the most powerful weapons that they can create or obtain in order to get into the late game Crota’s End raid and have a chance to actually defeat the boss.

Gamers who have The Dark Below have just started exploring the content that it introduces and Bungie wants them to report problems as soon as they experience them so that they can be fixed in a coming patch.
