The Destiny sequel that was confirmed recently is going to allow players to seamlessly import their current Destiny 1 characters into the new experience, as developer Bungie knows that many people are very attached to their characters.

Destiny launched in September, and before its release, both Bungie and publisher Activision touted the 10-year plan for the online first-person shooter, stating that they wanted to delight fans for a very long time with adventures in the multiplayer world.

As such, after the game launched worldwide, Activision soon confirmed that Bungie was already working on a Destiny 2, which continues the story and should provide more adventures than those that will appear through expansions for Destiny 1.

Plans are already being made for Destiny 2

While it's declined to comment all that much about the new iteration in the series, Bungie's David Dague has talked with IGN in vague terms about the sequel, saying that plans are already being made in terms of locations, weapons, and adventures.

"It's been no secret that we have a ten-year plan for the expansion and evolution of this franchise, and it's something that we're always dreaming about," he says. "I've seen new concept art, I've seen new exotic weapons up on people's screens...it's a lot of fun to walk around the studio, because there's always somebody thinking about the next place you'll go, the next enemy you'll fight, the next thing that you'll earn for doing those things."

Players will be able to import their characters from Destiny 1

Dague also highlights that fans shouldn't be worried about abandoning their characters or adventures from Destiny 1 when the sequel comes around, as Bungie knows that many people are growing attached to their Guardians, so it will allow players to import them into the new experience and through the next 10 years of Destiny.

"The idea is that the Guardian you have created is something you can bring along with you on that adventure. If you take a look at the way people have played other games for a long period of time, they've had a relationship with the same character for a very long time," he adds.

As of yet, however, Bungie has declined to say anything else about Destiny's sequel, instead focusing more on the new expansions and updates it's rolling out for the current title. The first major add-on, The Dark Below, launches later today, December 9, across PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One worldwide. The second add-on, House of Wolves, is set to appear in the following months, and you can bet that more content will appear until Destiny 2 becomes a reality.
